What is empathy, really?

4. You can't easily ignore others' suffering. News of disasters or injustice moves you deeply. This correlates strongly with prosocial behavior â empathetic people volunteer more and help more often.
5. You naturally take others' perspectives. When someone behaves strangely, your first reaction is to understand why. This cognitive empathy is a key skill for negotiators, leaders, and therapists.
The shadow side
