Psychological tests in Polish recruitment

More and more companies in Poland use psychological tests in their recruitment process. According to research by Hays Poland, more than 30% of large companies use psychometric assessment at the candidate selection stage.

Which tests are used?

Personality tests

Most often Big Five or DISC. They measure personality traits that matter for the role — e.g. conscientiousness for roles that require precision, extraversion for sales.

Cognitive ability tests

They measure speed of thinking and logical and numerical reasoning. A strong predictor of job success (r = 0.51 according to Schmidt & Hunter).

Career interest tests

Holland RIASEC — they check whether the candidate's profile fits the work environment.

Emotional competence tests

Emotional intelligence (EQ) — important for leadership roles and client-facing work.

Candidate rights in Poland

• RODO/GDPR — the employer must tell you the purpose of collecting psychometric data
• Voluntariness — a candidate can refuse (although in practice refusing may take you out of the process)
• Access to results — you have the right to ask for your results
• Ban on discrimination — results cannot be the only criterion for a decision

How to prepare as a candidate

1. Don't lie — tests have control scales that detect dishonesty
2. Answer spontaneously — overthinking distorts the result
3. Be yourself — fit with the company culture works both ways
4. Get to know the format — if you know there will be a Big Five test, take it beforehand for yourself

How to introduce tests as an employer

1. Choose a tool with documented validity (Big Five, DISC, Holland)
2. Use tests as one of many tools, not the only criterion
3. Train recruiters to interpret the results
4. Make sure you comply with RODO (GDPR)
