Introvert or HSP? Two different things that are easy to confuse
Introversion is about where you get energy: contact with people costs you, and solitude recharges you. An introvert can still handle noise, crowds and strong stimuli just fine β they simply prefer smaller doses of company.
High sensitivity (HSP) per Aron is a nervous-system trait: deeper processing of all stimuli β lights, sounds, other people's emotions. About 30% of highly sensitive people areβ¦ extraverts who love people but get overstimulated quickly.
How to tell them apart? Ask about the mechanism: if after a party you feel "socially drained" β that is introversion. If you feel "sensorily overloaded" (noise, smells, emotions), no matter how much you like people β that is closer to HSP. Take both tests: the combination says more than either alone.
