Personality

Neuroticism

## What is neuroticism?

Neuroticism is a personality dimension describing the tendency to experience negative emotions: anxiety, anger, sadness, guilt and shame. People high in neuroticism react more strongly to stress. In the Big Five model it is one of five core dimensions.

## Why does it matter?

Neuroticism is one of the strongest predictors of anxiety and depressive disorders. High levels are associated with poorer sleep quality and higher burnout risk.

## How is neuroticism measured?

Using personality questionnaires such as the **NEO-PI-R**, **Big Five Inventory (BFI)** or the brief **TIPI** scale.
