Values
What are values?
Values are enduring beliefs about what is important, good, and desirable. They guide choices: who to marry, what career to pursue, how to raise children. Schwartz defined 10 universal values, validated in over 80 cultures: achievement, power, hedonism, stimulation, self-direction, universalism, benevolence, tradition, conformity, security.
Why does it matter?
Mismatch between values and life leads to discomfort and meaninglessness. Awareness of values makes hard decisions easier.
How is it measured?
Schwartz Value Survey, Moral Foundations Questionnaire (Haidt).
