Openness to Experience
What is openness?
Openness to experience is one of the five Big Five dimensions. High-openness people are curious, creative, drawn to abstract ideas, and willing to try new things. Low openness prefers routine, the concrete, and proven solutions.
Why does it matter?
Openness correlates with creativity, academic progress, and tolerance for diversity. It's the strongest Big Five predictor of political liberalism.
How is it measured?
NEO-PI-R, BFI, TIPI, and the detailed Openness Detailed Inventory.
